RTA Trip Planner Now Features Train Arrival Information Print E-mail

Transit riders can now access the Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) Train Tracker from goroo®, the Regional Transportation Authority’s (RTA) multi-modal trip planner.  Adding Train Tracker to goroo® is part of the RTA’s overall effort to provide transit riders access to real time information for the CTA, Metra and Pace. Last month, the RTA added the CTA’s Bus Tracker to goroo®.  Eventually, the goroo® website will also include real-time arrival information for Metra trains and Pace buses.  “Adding the CTA’s Bus and Train Tracker to goroo® is an interim step toward eventually providing riders real-time arrival information across the transit system,” said Leanne Redden, Senior Deputy Executive Director of Planning for the RTA.

Goroo® provides side-by-side comparisons of trip itineraries using transit, driving, walking, biking, or any combination of these transportation options. This capability requires the integration of driving directions, bus and train data, and real-time highway and transit monitoring systems.  Both Bus and Train Tracker can be found at the “Next Train/Bus” link on

Train Tracker was introduced by the CTA in January and provides riders with estimated arrival times for all 144 stations across the CTA’s eight rail lines. Train Tracker is still in its beta phase and will continually be improved based on input that the CTA receives from its customers.
